The zoo in Copenhagen has a special tradition for posters. The garden was founded in 1859, and the oldest preserved poster in the Zoological Gardens collection dates from 1874. However, only around 1900 began to use posters of today's prominent poster artists as a powerful, visual means of communication to draw attention to the new animals and attractions of the harbour.
