Man of many talents

Valdemar Andersen is the name of the Danish poster artist, who was born in 1875 and died in 1928. Early in his life Andersen became a painter and later went to the Academy of Fine Arts. After completing his education at the Academy of Fine Arts, he drew portraits for a stereotyping studio and later got a job as a magazine artist. Over the years, Andersen has exhibited countless portraits and paintings both in Charlottenborg and in shop windows. But he was not only experienced in portrait painting and as a poster artist. He also had talents for newspaper drawing, book covers, book illustrations, advertising brochures and more. Probably all his experiences are the reason why he is today known as a pioneer in the art of posters.

Groundbreaking, joyous art

That Andersen is a pioneer of poster art is no secret – nor is it here at Permild & Rosengreen. Over the years he has been a leading poster artist for companies such as Carlsberg and the Zoo in Copenhagen.
