The world famous artist and style changes

Henri Matisse is the name of probably one of the world’s most famous artist in the field of painting. Matisse was born in France in 1869 and died in the metropolis of Nice in 1954. At the age of 18, he travelled alone to the capital, Paris, to study law. When Matisse lay ill in 1989 with appendicitis, his mother gave him a set of painting tools, which proved to be the beginning of his passion for and work with painting. In his encounter with the art of painting, Matisse himself described that he experienced a sense of “a kind of paradise”, precisely why he decided to become a fulltime artist. His choice to drop out of law school in favour of the arts disappointed his father deeply, but Matisse nevertheless followed his heart and lived out his artist’s dream. It resulted in a lifelong career and passion, as well as discoveries of different and new art forms. Early in his career, Matisse painted still life and landscape paintings, but later became acquainted with impressionism and Van Gogh’s works, which made him completely change his style. This was not the only time he changed his painting style. Up to several times he changed his style to art forms such as pointillism, fauvism and primitivism.

Interest in colours and varying brush strokes

His great interest in developing and innovative art was very evident in his works of art.
