An artist was born

Pierre Alechinsky was born in Scaerbeek, Belgium, in 1927. At the age of just 17, he was accepted to a Belgian art school, where he had the opportunity to live out his great passion for the arts. Here, he studied illustration techniques, printing and photography. In 1951, Alechensky moved to France, where he has lived ever since. In 1954 he had his first exhibition in the French metropolis, Paris, and then began to take an interest in Chinese and Japanese calligraphy. He then became a Parisian correspondent for the Japanese journal, Bokubi.

Imaginative, virtuosic and extremely expressive works of art

Alechinsky’s field of interest was notably in the genres, tachism, abstract expressionism and lyrical abstraction. As a result, Alechinsky’s beautiful works are characterized by a particularly abstract style, which is often complimented by a lot of beautiful and saturated colours. His idiom is surreal, playful, and in the 50s characterized by abstract, adventurous creatures that emerge from the canvas. His favourite materials are ink, gouache and oil paint. However, this changed significantly in the 60s, when Alechinsky discovered the acrylic paint and banished the oil painting. As a painter, Alechinsky has exhibited all over the world, and what is common to his works is that they are imaginative, virtuosic and extremely expressive. And here at Permild & Rosengreen, that’s exactly what you find. Here on the page you can look more closely at the poster “Alechinsky, Tale til børnene/ Address to the children”, which at the same time is abstract, expressionistic and extremely colourful.
