Nicolai Howalt is a Danish-born artist from the year of 1970. He is educated from the Danish photographic visual art school, Fatamorgana, in 1992, and how holds the official title as photographer. You can generally distinguish between two eras in Howalt’s works; his past works and his current works. While his earlier works were primarily performed and expressed on the basis of mortality as an inevitable part of life and its progress, his current works are based on unique materiality in combination with chemical processes. .

His in research, Howalt uses the scientific methods and apparatus from the 19th century, as well as coloured filters to create immediate and unprocessed images of the rays of the sun. This is evident, among other things, on his poster named Light Break, which is a documentary and aesthetic clash between photography, science and visual art.
