Bible teachings and watercolours

Jacob Jordaens was born in Antwerp, Belgium, on May 13th, 1593, and died on October 18th, 1678. Jacob Jordaens was a Flemish draughtsman and tapestry designer, who was known for his historical paintings, genre scenes and portraits. Jordaens was the first of 11 children of the wealthy linen merchant of the same name, Jacob Jordaens Sr. and Barbara van Wolschaten. Jordaens had a strong knowledge of French and was very interested in bible teachings, which caused him to convert from Catholicism to Protestantism. He was later apprenticed to Adam van Noort and, after eight years in apprenticeship, he was named watercolour artist – and artist often used in the context of altar paintings. After many years in his work as an artist, he had a number of students, which indicates that he was well-known and recognized for his work.
