Well-known designer and ceramicist

Thorvald Bindesbøll was born in the Danish Capital, Copenhagen, in 1846. He was born into an artistic family where his father, Michael Bindesbøll was a skilled architect. When Bindesbøll was  young, he was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen, where he graduated as an architect in 1876. Later he became interested in ceramics, and got a job as a ceramicist at the well-known Danish company, Kähler in Næstved and at E. Eifrig in Valby, Copenhagen. In 1900 he received international attention at the Paris Exposition Universelle, where he won the gold medal for his decoration of the Danish exhibition. Despite this, Bindesbøll is probably most well-known and recognized as the designer of the world-renowned label for Carlsberg, which remains unchanged to this day.
