Since the opening of Tivoli in Copenhagen in 1843, the world-famous amusement garden's adventurous universe has been depicted on posters a tradition that today is continued by some of the best Danish artists. The Tivoli posters give a unique insight into the development of poster art from the mid-1800s to the present. A large, yellow elephant with a red ball in its wide open mouth welcomes the audience in Tivoli at John Kørner's (1967) poster from 2010. The inspiration for the poster is taken from Tivoli's old animal game, where a ball is thrown into the gap in various exotic animals.
