Since the opening of Tivoli in Copenhagen in 1843, the world-famous amusement garden's adventurous universe has been depicted on posters a tradition that today is continued by some of the best Danish artists. The Tivoli posters give a unique insight into the development of poster art from the mid-1800s to the present. At Valdemar Andersen's (1875-1928) poster from 1906, Pjerrot welcomes Tivoli's guests. The background, which with strong blue and red contrasts with the clown figure's massive whiteness, is made up of the Pantomime Theater's Chinese architecture and of Nimb's luminous facade.
