The world renowned artist from Spain
He is known by all. What best describes this artist is the pervasive abstract visual art and the Blue Period. You have probably already guessed who the person is. Namely, the lovely Pablo Ruiz Picasso. Picasso was born in the year of 1881 in Malaga, Spain and died 91 years later in 1973 in Mougins, France. Picasso was a man of many talents, which is evident through his myriad and various occupations. He worked as an art painter, sculptor, engraver, letterpress artist, ceramicist, graphic designer and stage designer. Considering all his occupations, he was most successful in his works as an art painter – so much international success that today he is considered to be one of the 20th century’s greatest painters and stylists in modern art.
Revolutionary artist and style
Together with French painter and sculptor, Georges Braque, he founded cubism; an artstic style that could describe an object from multiple perspectives at once. Picasso is also known for his Blue Period, which he initiated shortly after the death of his friend Cassagema. This period is characterized by dark, cold shades and a sense of heaviness and seriousness. Thus, the Blue Period reflects Picasso’s state of mind after his friend’s death. Picasso’s most famous work is considered Guernica, which, with a depiction of German aircraft bombing the city of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War, shows the seriousness and gloom of war.
