Jens Jørgensen Juel was born in the Danish city, Balslev in Funen in 1745 and died in Copenhagen in 1802. Already in the early stages of his life, Juel was very excited for art, and he especially showed a great interest in painting. Due to this, his parents put him made him study with the German painter, Johann Gehrman, just after his confirmation. In the following six years Juel studied in Hamborg at Gehrman’s, and he improved so much, he became more and more famous in the painting business. Juel was especially known for painting portraits, landscapes and night pieces. Just after he turned 20, he was accepted at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art, at which he received two medal of the academy.
