The satirical universe of Robert Storm Petersen (1882-1949) is known in particular from his series of drawings and text in newspapers such as Ekstra Bladet and the daily newspaper B.T., but he also painted watercolors and oil paintings, and drew many posters throughout his career. In the painting Clown's funeral, which this poster is reproduced for, the circus world's party and colors meet with melancholy and sadness. The clown was one of Storm P.'s recurring characters, just as the circus life was a motive he continued to portray in his pictures. The painting was left unfinished by Storm P.'s death in 1949.
