Since the opening of Tivoli in Copenhagen in 1843, the world-famous amusement garden's adventurous universe has been depicted on posters a tradition that today is continued by some of the best Danish artists. The Tivoli posters give a unique insight into the development of poster art from the mid-1800s to the present. At Bjørn Wiinblad's (1918-2006) poster from 1981, a smiling Harlekin, drawn in the characteristic Wiinblad style, presents all of Tivoli's delights on a dish a sparkling jumble of amusements and theater surrounded by artistic decoration, light and festive fireworks.
