Since the opening of Tivoli in Copenhagen in 1843, the world-famous amusement garden's adventurous universe has been depicted on posters a tradition that today is continued by some of the best Danish artists. The Tivoli posters give a unique insight into the development of poster art from the mid-1800s to the present. Peter Carlsen's (b. 1955) poster from 1995 focuses on the experience of Tivoli as the place for dreams and adventures. Here, the old garden's iconic architecture and amusements form the backdrop to the happy girl face, which is connected to the word TIVOLI via balloon-shaped thought bubbles.
