Giraffes is one of the last of many posters that Poul Jørgensen (1882-1941) drew for a long time for the Zoo in Copenhagen.
The poster shows the new generation of giraffes, which in the summer of 1939 was one of the main attractions of the garden.
The cropping of the picture gives the viewer the impression that visiting the zoo can get close to these beautiful, distinctive animals.
The zoo in Copenhagen has a special tradition for posters. The garden was founded in 1859, and the oldest preserved poster in the Zoological Gardens collection dates from 1874.
However, only around 1900 began to use posters of today's prominent poster artists as a powerful, visual means of communication to draw attention to the new animals and attractions of the garden.
