Since the opening of Tivoli in Copenhagen in 1843, the world-famous amusement garden's adventurous universe has been depicted on posters a tradition that today is continued by some of the best Danish artists. The Tivoli posters give a unique insight into the development of poster art from the mid-1800s to the present.
The lake of TivoliI is the center of the poster from 2009 by Tal R (b. 1967). Here the boats circle around the pavilion, which is reflected in the lake. The passengers' heads are seen as small red and blue dots. The depiction of the pavilion's reflection in the water, the blue-black clouds of the background on a pink sky and the green conifers draws on the tradition of romance in the visual arts. At the same time, the picture is unmistakably modern, not least because of the dominant red-brown surface and the two color-shining figures in front of the landscape scene.
