The Grand Tour / # 1
The NASA poster "The Grand Tour / # 1" immediately leads to thoughts of adventure and exploration. The circles represent the four outer planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
The script "every 175 years" refers to the fact that NASA's Voyager mission benefited from the four planets being aligned every 175 years.
This phenomenon enables what another small text on the poster refers to, namely assistance from the planetary gravity ("experience the charm of gravity assists") in the journey out of our solar system.
The spacecraft simply exploited gravity from each planet in its acceleration - and as they were in line, it could "jump" from plane to planet, thus achieving incredible speed on the way out of our solar system.
Both Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 are still working out there, over 40 years after their departure from the earth's surface in 1977.
Imaginative and magnificent design
The simple lines and the 60's inspired color palette and transparency give the big, round circles, which thus represent the solar system's outer planets, a very special life.
The smaller circles could be comets, asteroids or some of Jupiter's countless moons.
The shabby design achieves its powerful effect precisely because it is just detailed enough to give the viewer a strong impression of how magnificent an experience such a journey might be.
At the same time, the design is also simple enough that it leaves little to the imagination.
Thus, travel and adventure enthusiasm becomes undeniable, and one can easily daydream away on a "grand tour" around among the solar system's outer planets with this NASA poster hanging on the wall.
In other words, "The Grand Tour / # 1" is a well-designed and deliciously designed poster that will surely astonish you as well as the admiration of the guests.
Designed by the artists of Invisible Creatures
It's the brother-in-law Don and Ryan Clark who are behind the design. Together they have the art and design studio Invisible Creatues, through which they have created art and graphic design for many of the largest companies in the world.
However, their cooperation with NASA is no coincidence. Their grandfather, Alfred Paulsen, worked as an illustrator for 28 years. Generally, their illustrations are full of play, fantasy and fun perspectives, shapes and colors.
At the same time, they have also made several retro-inspired designs. The fact that they have been right for this task cannot therefore be in doubt - and should one still be in doubt, then you just have to look at the poster again!
