This poster is at once romantic, ironic and spooky in its idea and expression. The text "Your oasis in space - where the air is free and breathing is easy" makes one see the Earth in a whole new perspective. It makes one think of Earth as one habitable planet among many, rather than the only habitable planet. If we could live elsewhere, what would be special about Earth? NASA's overall purpose of their poster series is to make people fantasize in space as well as in the future. How would it be to live on other planets in our solar system? Or on other planets outside our solar system? In each poster they thus highlight one prominent aspect of that planet, from which they unfold their imagination and creativity. One of the motivations behind the hunt for Earth-like planets is that we can find a new planet to inhabit in case our home planet does not strike or become uninhabitable. The likelihood that it will succeed in finding a planet within our reach that is just as perfect for human life as the Earth is very small. Even if wormholes and new technology are counted on. We must therefore never take Earth for granted - we have to take care of it. It is our home planet as well as the most pleasant planet to be on for humans. We must seek out, because it is great to explore and learn about our solar system and the rest of the universe - not because we pollute our home planet! Therefore, NASA not only monitors outer space - they also keep an eye on how our dear Earth has it. Thus, the message becomes both ambiguous and powerful. This care for our own planet is clearly reflected in motifs, drawing styles and colors. An in love couple looking out over a beautiful and lush valley in which there is a small deer family - can it almost become more romantic and idyllic? For this, the poster stands out from the other posters in the series, by being designed in 50's style. Thus, the poster will look like a cross between an advertisement for travel to earth and a cover page for a romantic sci-fi novel from the 50s. The poster is designed by Joby Harris, who is a permanent employee of NASA in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
