The popular series - Matador

Matador is a 24-episode Danish television series, first aired in 1978 and lastly in 1981. The series follows the life of a Danish provincial city, drawing a clear picture of Denmark's time during the Great Depression in the 1930s. In addition, the series also portrays Denmark during the German occupation in connection with World War II - especially with emphasis on family life and associated crises. The series has, since its release in 1978 and right up to the present, held a special place in the hearts of most Danes - and it is therefore no wonder that the series has for many years been regarded as one of the most popular TV series in Denmark. The DVD collection of the series has been sold in over 3,600,000 copies, and before that, the VHS version was sold for approx. 1,000,000 copies. That is more copies than any other series in the Danish history of TV series. And the Danes still watch it!
