Erik Stockmarr
The cartoonist Erik Stockmarr (1905-1963) is one of the Danish circus posters' big names. He gets his breakthrough in the 30s and makes tourist and advertising posters until the fifties, where he settles as a renewal of the circus poster.
The circus poster renews
Poster Circus Benneweis - The Splendid Berber Lions (1952) is one of the examples of Erik Stockmarr's peculiar style. Here, the humor is used to tone down the fearsome lions' wildness, and the relationship between the foliage and the animals is produced with relaxed calm. The style is characterized by a sketchy line with picturesque strokes and lots of color. The colors are used to create the joy and liveliness associated with the circus as an event.
